New S60 3.x/5.x-Version of Freeware Gomoku

28 August 2009

http://www.symbianresources.com/projects/gomoku/t2_gomoku.jpgGomoku (also known as Connect Five or Pente TM - see Wikipedia) is a traditional and very popular game that is a lot of fun and easy to play for two players. All you need is a sheet of checkered paper, a pen and a friend, and you're ready to go. Your task is to get an unbroken row of five stones in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal row. As you play in turns, you will usually have to think of some nasty traps in order to win.

Gomoku for S60 / UIQ lets you play this game everywhere, no matter if you have got a sheet of paper, a pen or a friend near you. It allows playing both in single player mode against a challenging artificial intelligence as well as in two-player mode. Additionally, you can freely define the board size and activate the "pair check" option, which allows to capture enemy stones.

What's new: the game has previously only been available for UIQ 3. Now, I have ported the game to S60. It works both on 3rd (N95, E71, etc.) and 5th Edition touch devices (N97, 5800xm, etc.). Compared to the UIQ version, it now features two new artificial intelligences to play against. Additionally, the game stores the settings and stats for each player.

The S60 port is currently in Beta. Please report any bugs you might find and send your general feedback to me. If no bugs are discovered, the game will be Symbian Signed and put on the Ovi Store (of course as freeware).
